Valkenburg is a professional photographer who specializes in nature
photography. His images sell widely in galleries in Connecticut and
New York, and have appeared in Sports Illustrated, Field and Stream, and
other periodicals.
Van Valkenburg's strikingly
original artwork sets itself apart from the conventional. New York
Times art critic Vivien Raynor, reviewing a Van Valkenburg show at the
Nardin Fine Arts Gallery in Cross River, New York, described his
photographs as "seductive" and "romantic". She
took particular note of his depictions of the songbirds known as
warblers. "Each", writes Raynor, is "a gem in a leafy
setting" and "all..(are) tours de force of patience and
observation."
Van Valkenburg serves on
the Board of Directors of the Trailside Museum at Westchester's Pound
Ridge Reservation. He, his wife Ellie, and their four dogs reside in
Westchester County, New York.
