The wedding cake that the bride and groom are cutting longer the traditional white vanilla cake with the plastic bride and groom on top.  When deciding on your wedding cake, your first consideration should be to choose a cake that suits you, and your fiancée's, personality and decorating tastes.

Mud cakes, carrot cakes, marble cakes, ice cream cakes and even cheesecakes are frequent selections with white chocolate icing and cream cheese icing is a popular as well.

Many brides are choosing multi-flavored cakes. This is an option if you can't decide on one flavor alone. If you like lots of flavors, have a layered cake and choose a different flavor for each tier.

The traditional circle is still a popular shape, as well as  squares, ovals and hexagons.

Also used in decorating are fresh flowers to add color to the typically soft whites of a wedding cake.

Plastic bride and groom wedding cake toppers, like the plastic tiers, are on the way out, instead ceramics, porcelain, and crystals are being used since they can double as a keepsake.  Beleek bone china has a beautiful selection of collectable cake toppers.
A groom's cake is usually a smaller second cake made in honor of the groom that allows you to be creative and deviate from the standard conservative wedding cake. Many grooms choose a chocolate cake, but it could be anything. The Groom's Cake is usually placed on the same table as the wedding cake. This is becoming popular lately as some people don't like the traditional wedding cake, but a small slice of chocolate cake would make their experience at your wedding even better.

Vegan Wedding Cakes
Perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of planning a vegan wedding is finding a vegan wedding cake. Many bakers don't know how to make a cake without eggs, butter, and milk. However, if you're in a large metropolitan area, it's likely that you can track down a vegan baker or, at least, a baker with experience making vegan cakes.  If you want a traditional tiered wedding cake, you'll need to consult a baker so that your vegan cake can be properly layered and supported.

1.  Make sure your cake is made from a company that creates all their cakes from
scratch, using only the finest ingredients. Strive to have a cake made which is
most delicious and looks good too.

2. Take a look at their portfolio of cakes. Do you like what you see? Does it reflect good workmanship, a steady hand, and creativity? Do you like the baker's style?

3. If your baker is close by, there may not be an additional delivery charge. Some may charge  for delivery. Usually, the set up charge is included in the price of the cake.

4. Talk to your baker about how you'd like the cake table to be set up. Usually, they will use some fresh flowers and greenery to decorate the cake table.

5.  For a three-tiered cake, prices average between $2.50 - $5.00 per slice. Price per serving, varies based upon the intricacy of the design and decorations of the cake. Elaborate frosting decorations are time and labor intensive which equals a higher price.

6. What time of year are you getting married?  Is the reception indoors or outdoors?  If it is outdoors in the summer ask about the heat and what restrictions that cake may have.

7. Bring ideas and pictures with you to give the baker an idea of what you want.
